Neurodiversity-affirming and neuro-competent therapy for individuals, couples, and families
If you have been diagnosed with autism or ADHD – or suspect you might be neurodivergent – then you know you have a special brain with its unique strengths and challenges. This is essentially the key principle of neurodiversity: there are natural variations in how the human brain functions and these differences are important because different brains contribute to human society in different ways. It is not a blessing or a curse – it can be either, depending on how well you understand and manage your differences.
Knowing about your mind will help you better understand your learning and processing style, your interpersonal patterns, and many types of behaviors. In my work with neurodivergent individuals, I take a compassionate and research-based approach to help you understand your mind better and to maximize your strengths and minimize challenges or distressing symptoms.
I pay special attention to the intersection of neurodiversity and such mental health concerns as anxiety, depression, sexual health issues, obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, trauma, substance abuse, and relationship challenges.
A neuro-competent approach is also crucially important in working with couples and families where one or more members are neurodivergent. I specialize in integrating neuro-competent approaches into family and couples treatments so that partners and family members can better connect and understand each other, and accept each other’s differences.
